Jackie Ray Nash, 64 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Monday, March 3, 2014 at his residence. Jackie was born January 25, 1950 in Stanly County to the late Clinton Lindo Nash and the late Callie Lee Thompson Nash. He is also preceded in death by his son, Jackie Ray Nash, Jr. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service officiated by Rev. Robert Cauble will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 7, 2014 at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 132 Church Street, Albemarle, NC 28001. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory, 2001 East Main St., Albemarle, with full military rites conducted by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard. At other times, the family will be meeting at the home of his brother in law, Gene Auton, 1709 Lowder Street, Albemarle. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Julia Ella Auton Nash of Albemarle; daughters, Wendy Strausser and husband, Stephen of Albemarle and Yolanda Hathcock of Norwood; son, Ray Gene Nash of Albemarle; son in law, John Hathcock of Norwood; grandchildren; Amanda and Stephen Strausser, Andrea Schmieder, Jackie, Jessica and Nikolos Nash, Megan Rogers, Johnathan and Callie Hathcock; three great grandchildren and one expected in May. A retired veteran of the US Army, he proudly served his country in GA, CA, CO, KS, and Germany in postal units, signal corps, and corrections. He is also retired from Michelin, was currently employed with NCDOC, and was a member of Grace Baptist Church. While his health permitted, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and going to the mountains. The family gives special thanks to Hospice of Stanly County and to the caregivers at Stanly Regional ICU and Mercy ICU. To his friends that knew him best, he leaves his "AMF" that only they will understand and appreciate.
