James W Colpitts, age 85 of Albemarle passed away on November 07, 2010 at Brookridge Retirement Center in Winston Salem. Born in in Pullman, WA on May 23, 1925 to Elmer and May Colpitts. James was the youngest of seven siblings. At the age of 17 he enlisted in the Coast Guard and served in the South Pacific during WWII. He then enrolled at Washington State University where he received a degree in Chemical Engineering. He married Trudy Weiss in 1952. Jim worked at Alcoa for 35 years where he recieved the Arthur Vining Davis Award for outstanding service. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hiker, skier and golfer. He also took up scuba diving during retirement. He loved traveling with Trudy. He was active throughout his life at Central United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir for 40 years. He has spent the last three years at the Taylor House in Albemarle, NC. He enjoyed playing bridge at the senior center and was a member of an investment club. Mr. Colpitts was preceded in death by his spouse Trudy Colpitts in 2007. Funeral service will held on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 11:00 AM at Central United Methodist Church, 172 N Second Street Albemarle NC with Rev. Mark Weekly officiating. Mr. James W Colpitts was survived by his daughter Jenny Bunch and her husband Brian of High Point NC, his sons Tom Colpitts and wife Shirley of Durham NC, Terry Colpitts and wife Alisa of Blacksburg VA, his grandchildren Drew & Ryan Colpitts, Laura & Emily Bunch, Justin, Alaina & Lucas Colpitts, and his sister Elizabeth Jacquot.
