James Curlee
November 30, 1924 — March 27, 2014
James Lloyd Curlee, 89 years of age, of Oakboro, went home to be with the Lord Thursday, March 27, 2014 at his home.
Lloyd was born November 30, 1924 in Oakboro to the late James Lee Curlee and the late Ethel Smith Curlee. He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Lillian Holt Curlee.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm, Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Mineral Springs Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the church sanctuary officiated by Rev. Rod Denny and Rev. Keith W. Walters. The burial will be at Oakboro Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12. At other times the family will be gathering at his home.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Markla Rae Gist Curlee of the home; sons, Rick Curlee and wife Trisha of Stanfield, Forrest Curlee and wife Lana of Oakboro, and Eric Curlee and wife Sandy of Norwood; stepdaughter, Tina Carter and husband Wayne of Badin; stepsons, Tony Haire and wife Gail of Badin, and David Haire and Jackie of Knightdale; eight grandchildren, Cheryl Greene, Toni Miller, Casey and Caleb Curlee, Justin Carter, Holly Williams, Heather Carter, and Christy Pickler; seven great grandchildren; brother, Clontz Curlee of Mint Hill; sisters, Gertrude Coble of Oakboro and Zula Little of Albemarle.
Lloyd was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved his family and being with people. Lloyd was a Corporal in the United States Marines. He served his country honorably during WWII in the battle of Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. He retired as a truck driver from Standard Trucking Company after 45 years of service. Lloyd was a faithful member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church. He loved his church family.
