January 5, 1941 — January 10, 2024

Concord

James Franklin Bowles, 83, of Concord, NC, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.

Mr. Bowles was born January 5, 1941 in Forsyth County, North Carolina to the late Oscar Linden Bowles and the late Onnie Jewel Corriher Bowles.

He was preceded in death by siblings Henry Lester Corriher, Oscar Eugene Bowles, Betty Kathleen Bowles, Dorothy Louise Bowles, Billy Wilson Bowles, Woodrow Nelson Bowles, Richard Glen Bowles, and grandson, Justin Tyler Mabe.

A stubborn but proud man, he worked hard to build a strong foundation for his life, eventually planting permanent roots in Concord, NC. He believed in hard work and dedication and that things should be done properly—and if they weren't then you'd best try again. His passport was full of stamped pages; his eyes saw much of the world. He enjoyed golf, NASCAR, and his favorite color was blue. He loved and raised many dogs. He was affectionately known as Pop-Pop by his grandchildren.

He is survived by daughters, Dawn Elaine Bowles of Winston Salem, NC; Deborah Bowles Carscaddon and husband, James, of Harrisburg, NC; and Lisa Lanette Bowles of Pinnacle, NC; siblings Sue Darby and husband, Ron; Shirley Styers and husband, Mike; and Charlie Bowles; granddaughters Rachael Provost and husband, Ross; Karen Young and husband, Adam; and Kimberly Barnett and husband, Thomas; four great grandchildren, Tyler Mabe, Ben Provost, Jack Provost and Pacey Young, and many nieces and nephews.

He gave back to his community by regularly contributing to many charitable organizations. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in his memory to the North Carolina Sheriff's Association, Special Olympics, and/or a local animal shelter.

Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg is serving the Bowles family.
