The family is sad to announce the passing of James G. Spencer, of Concord, NC, formerly of Middlefield, Ct.
Born on May 11, 1936 Died December 19, 2024. Jim attended Middlefield schools then Woodrow Wilson HS in Middletown, CT leaving prior to graduation to “See the World!”
He joined the Navy in 1954 where he had a stellar career and became a 1st Class Diver, Master Explosive Ordinance Disposal Tech, Jump Master with 780 jumps and an Underwater swimmer. He was assigned to Presidential protection for 2 Presidents & a foreign Dignitary as part of the USN Bomb Squad working with Secret Service. He also covered both the DNC and RNC Conventions of 72’. He retired as a SCPO (Sr. Chief Petty Ocer) in 76’. While on active duty he attended 36 Navy Schools (some 2X)! He then worked for Furmanite Corp, sealing leaks in high pressure lines in Nuclear Energy Plants & other Instillations & retired in 1998.
He now joins his loving wife Gayle (Krayer) Spencer (B: 6-29-36 D: 7-12-20) He leaves behind a brother Ernest W. Spencer of Easley, SC & a sister Elizabeth Spencer of Winter Springs, Fl. He leaves five sons, Craig & Adam Spencer of Meriden, Ct, DeWayne of Concord, VT, and Richard & Erin of Concord, NC. Also left behind are three step daughters, Catherine Wagner of White Oaks, NC, Cheryl Mize & Becky Rushing of Concord, NC. He also leaves numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren & great-great grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be held January 4, 2025 in Concord, NC at Hartsell Funeral Home @460 Branchview Dr NE, Concord, NC @ 2:00 p.m. Any correspondence can be sent to Ernest W. Spencer @ 128 Stonegate Ct, Easley, SC #29642. There will be a Live Link to the memorial service for those who are unable to attend.
