James Elmer Gandy, Sr., 85, of Concord, went to be with his Lord and Saviour on Monday, December 7, 2009, at the Laurels at Highland Creek in Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 AM on Thursday, December 10, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. The funeral service will follow at 11 AM in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord. Military rites will be performed by the Cabarrus County Veterans Honor Guard. Mr. Gandy served in the Pacific during WWII with the Navy Sea Bees. Mr. Gandy was born on April 28, 1924, in Cabarrus County, to the late William Wesley Gandy and the late Valley Mae Brown Gandy. Also preceded in death by a son Gerald Griffin. Mr. Gandy retired from Cannon Mills, plant 5, where he was a loom fixer. He was a member of Young Memorial Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Ruby L. Gandy, of the home; son, Jim Gandy, Jr. and wife Terry, of Concord; daughters, Dianne Deese and husband M. Reid Deese, Jr. and Kathy Hales - Ross, all of Concord; half-brothers Ray Gandy and Dewey Gandy, both of Concord; half-sisters Mary Ann Rinehardt ,of Concord, and Ethel Foster, of Kannapolis; 8 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Cabarrus County 5003 Hospice Lane Kannapolis, NC 28081; or to the Alzheimers Association, 3800 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, NC 28215.
