James Wilkinson Gray, 88 years of age, passed away at his home on November 6, 2014.
He was born on July 3, 1926 in Cabarrus County, the son of the late Samuel and Edna Gray. He was preceeded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home, Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in Hartsell Funeral Home chapel.
James served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was honorably discharged in June 1945. He was awarded The Bronze Star for his courageous service and also received The Purple Heart award for wounds he incurred during battle. Later, he worked for D.C. Linn Construction as a construction foreman for many years. In 1988 James retired.
James was a dear friend to many and lived a life of service to others, his country and his Lord. He was a very hard worker, devoted husband, respected father and a beloved grandfather. James enjoyed spending time in the country where he had a farm and raised crops. He also attended many auctions and always bringing home interesting items.
James leaves behind his dear wife of 61 years, Carolyn Greene Gray; his children, Vickie Gray Bell and Lori Gray Krimminger; three grandchildren, Jason Burris, Barrett Krimminger and Alayna Krimminger; two great grandchildren, Luke Burris and Clara Burris.
