James Theodore Hartsell, 97 years of age, of Concord, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Best of Care Assisted Living in Kannapolis.
James was born August 13, 1916 in Cabarrus County to the late Ellis Oscar Hartsell and the late Mamie Hough Hartsell. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 73 years, Sally Joyner Hartsell; brothers, Howard , Joe, and Hubert Hartsell; and son-in-law Tony Grate.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Sunday, July 27, 2014 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be at 11:00 am on Monday at Howell's Baptist Church in Concord officiated by Rev. Sid Martin. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times the family will be gathering at the home.
He is survived by his three children, Jimmy Hartsell and wife Phyllis of Concord, Sue Grate of Joliet, IL, and Eddie Hartsell, Sr. and wife Therese of Joliet, IL; six grandchildren, Roger Hartsell of Concord, Debra Peterson and husband Randy of Joliet, IL, Eddie Hartsell, Jr. and wife Mary P. of Shorewood, IL, Rodney Hartsell of Orlando, FL, Brandon Hartsell and wife Melissa of Mooresville, and Casey Hartsell of Joliet, IL; ten great-grandchildren; and sister, Ruth Blackwelder of Concord.
James retired from the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System as maintenance supervisor, and was a lifelong member of Howell's Baptist Church.
