James Madison Helms, 88 years of age, of Stanfield, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.
James was born July 17, 1926 in Union County to the late Fred Owen Helms and the late Sally Regina Helms. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Sybil Deene Griffin Helms and brothers Paul J. and John O. Helms.
He was a former employee of Union Carbide Corporation of Charlotte for eighteen years. Afterwards, he worked as a mechanic for Stanly County Public Schools until his retirement. He enjoyed farming, his many horses and other animals. "Big James" and "Mama Deene" truly loved their friends and family. If you were a friend of theirs you became family.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 20, 2015 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. A graveside service officiated by Pastor Ronnie Russell will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday March 21, 2014 at Love's Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4360 Polk Ford Road, Stanfield.
He is survived by sons, Terry, Jimmy and wife, Sherrie, Lynn and wife, Kimberly, all of Stanfield, Rick and wife, Debbie of Keller, TX, Dale and wife, Cesily of Mooresville; nine grandchildren Sydney, Korbyn, Wyatt, Mary, Nicholas, Shelby, Madison, Casey and her husband, Kristopher, and Chad.
Our family would like to thank all friends and family for their support and comfort in the past weeks, especially to Tucker House Hospice for their comfort and compassion shown to us.
