James Henry Tomberlin

James Henry Tomberlin, age 91, of Matthews, NC, passed away peacefully under Hospice care at Novant Health Presbyterian Hospital of Charlotte on Thursday, August 3, 2023.

He was born October 7, 1931, in Union County to the late Wriston Lee Tomberlin and Mae Rushing Tomberlin. 
He was also preceded in death by brothers Buster Tomberlin, Jay Warren Tomberlin, Bobby Tomberlin and sisters, Deane Tomberlin Simpson, Flora Tomberlin Little, and Kay Tomberlin Kiker. He was loved and cherished by many people.

James is survived by his son James H. Tomberlin, Jr. (Sonny) and wife Tina of Newland, NC; one granddaughter, Lindsey Shelton (Johnathan) of Monroe, NC; three great-grandchildren, Jaxson Shelton, Kyelynn Laney, and Harlowe Shelton all of Monroe, NC. In addition, he is survived by two step-granddaughters, Allison Hinson (Robbie), and Meghan Conner (Charlie) of Marshville, NC; eight step-great-grandchildren of Marshville, NC. James is also survived by his brother Wilburn Tomberlin and sisters, Faynell Tomberlin Greene, Peggy Tomberlin Hinson, and Doris Tomberlin Greene, all of Monroe, NC.

James worked for Shaw Manufacturing Co., later known as Pennsylvania House of Monroe, NC as a spring-up and upholstering supervisor for 30 years. He enjoyed deep sea fishing with co-workers, working in his yard and garden, watching Atlanta Braves baseball, and cheering his favorite college basketball team, the UNC Tarheels. He was a very humble and kind man that enjoyed being around his family and friends. Special thanks go to the caring Hospice staff at Novant Presbyterian Hospital and to very special neighbors, Judy and Bobby Griffin.

Visitation for James will be held at Shiloh Advent Christian Church, 3601 Sikes Mill Road, Monroe, NC 28110, on Wednesday, August 9, at 2 p.m., with the funeral service to follow at 3 p.m. officiated by Pastor Travis Hutcheson.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Shiloh Advent Christian Church Building Fund, 3601 Sikes Mill Rd., Monroe, NC 28110.
