James Kluttz, Sr
March 15, 1919 — March 27, 2017
James Franklin Kluttz Sr., 98 years of age, of Locust, passed away Monday, March 27, 2017 at Carolinas HealthCare System NorthEast in Concord.
James was born March 15, 1919 in Stanly County to the late Joe Cletus Kluttz and the late Blanch Barnhardt Kluttz.
He was also preceded in death by wife, Kathleen Kluttz in 2015; and three siblings, Bill Kluttz, Roy Kluttz, and Rose Kluttz.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 29, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be on Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Locust and will be officiated by Dr. Tommy Ross. Burial will follow at the First Baptist Cemetery.
Survivors include son, James Franklin (Cheryl) Kluttz, Jr. of Locust; brother, Myron (Annie) Kluttz of Oakboro; brother, Bud (Shirley) Kluttz of Oakboro; sister, Betty (Fetzer) Hartsell of Oakboro; sister, Ruby Thomas of Oakboro; four grandchildren, Jim (April) Kluttz, Jillian Kluttz, China Kluttz, and Tessa (Joseph) Ocana; and two great-grandchildren, Yago and Nico.
James was a WWII Pacific Theatre combat veteran and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Locust for 67 years, and also a long-time member of the Turner-Barbeee VFW. He was also an expert gardener.
