James Roy Lewis, 86, of Charlotte, peacefully passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
James was born on June 15, 1938, in Spanish Town, Jamaica, to the late Bertram and Gladys Lewis. He was also preceded in death by his three older sisters.
After moving with his family to Harlem, New York, James worked for many years as a plumber. He enjoyed relaxing at home, watching westerns and wrestling, as well as traveling with his beloved wife, Cordel, whenever the opportunity arose. Those who knew him best will always remember his love for dancing and the joy he brought to any gathering.
The family will receive friends on Friday, February 28, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:45 PM at Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 200 Sims Pkwy, Harrisburg, NC. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM, officiated by Rev. Dr. Franklin D. Watkins. James will be laid to rest in the church cemetery.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 54 years, Cordel Matthews Lewis of Spanish Town, Jamaica; sons, Devon and Curtis Lewis, along with their spouses; daughters, Sophia and Antoinette Lewis their significant other, as well as honorary daughter Murine. He also leaves behind 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory, along with 3 nieces, 5 nephews and several cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church.
