James David Matson, 61, of Charlotte, passed away Saturday, January 14, 2023, at his home in Charlotte,
NC after a heroic battle with Stage IV Metastatic Prostate Cancer.
James was born June 9, 1961, in Iowa to the late David Matson and Rebecca Oyler Matson, before
settling in Cedarville, OH around 1965. As a teenager, Jim found his passion for carpentry and
homebuilding. Throughout his life, he developed many skills as he worked in different areas of the
construction field. In February 2012, Jim began a new adventure with Pillar to Post becoming a
franchisee in the Charlotte area. He excelled in this industry and earned many awards. Some of his
greatest joys included golfing, watching the Buckeyes beat Michigan, traveling, spending time with
friends and family, and spoiling his grandchildren.
Along with his father, he was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Stefan Tarapchak.
Survivors include his wife, Debra Matson of Charlotte, NC, mother, Rebecca Matson, daughter, Kristen
(Marc) Menhart, daughter, Holly Matson, son, Andrew Matson, son, Ryan Matson, stepson, Richard
(Mariana) Lindsay, stepson, Brandon Lindsay, grandchildren, Gisela (17), Derrick (16), Mateo (14),
Jayden (13), Jonathan (13), Audrey (11), and Leo (8), sister, Sandi Tarapchak, sister, Sharon (Mike)
Eckstein along with several nieces and nephews.
The Celebration of Life service will be on at 11am on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at The Refuge Church
in Kannapolis, NC.
