James Carlie McCann, age 79, of Harrisburg, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2013 at Tucker Hospice House. Mr. McCann was born July 13, 1933 to the late Roscoe McCann and the late Elsie Burcham McCann. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord on Wednesday, July 10, 2013 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. The funeral service will be held at Branchview First Church of God in Concord on Thursday, July 11, 2013 at 11:00am. Burial will follow at the Grassy Knob Baptist Church Cemetery at 4:00pm, 333 Grassy Knob Road, Union Grove, NC. Mr. McCann is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Annie Harris McCann; son, James Carlie II (Jay) wife (Jeanene) of Harrisburg. Daughters, Denise Pelone of Harrisburg, Diane Burris (Larry) of Concord, Lynn Guffey (Jack) of Concord. Also surviving are his beloved Grandchildren, Anna Elizabeth, Nicki and Catherine Pelone. Olivia Burris. James III and Matthew McCann, and Mackenzi and Will Guffey. He is also survived by a brother, Jimmy McCann of Statesville, NC. He will also be deeply missed by his precious dog “Tinkerbelle”. Mr. McCann served in the Army as a Military Police. After an honorable discharge, he worked for Asplundh Tree Company for 29 years. He then founded Carolina Tree Care of Concord, NC. After retirement, he began a passionate missions ministry. He traveled to 12 different countries assisting in the construction of schools and churches. Today, there is a beautiful church in Honduras named in his honor. He also “went back to his roots” in Union Grove and created a lovely home. This home is a scenic and peaceful dwelling on the property he was born and raised. This special place will be enjoyed by his family for generations to come. Memorials may be made to The Church of the Nazarene, Works and Witness Program.
