James McLaughlin, age 65 of 601 Crestview Dr., Albemarle, passed away Wednesday, December 23,2009 at his home after a two year battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his father, James McLaughlin and mother Dorothy Trumbower. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Sheila P. McLaughlin, son; Jeffrey M. Estes and wife Nora of Nampa, Idaho and daughter Stephanie E. Macer and husband Bill of Cumming,Ga. Grandchildren, Zachery,Cameron, Lauren "Tayler" Gabrielle Macer of Cumming, Georgia, Abby-Lynn, Lydia, Bethany, Jonathan, Heather, and Kaylee Estes of Nampa, Idaho. He was born November 10, 1944 in Philadelphia, Pa. He worked over 40 years in manufacturing. He and wife Sheila along with their children lived most of their lives in Indiana. While in Indiana he was a member of the Elks, active in church, as well as other social and civic organizations and causes. He served as controller at Thermo Modernfold. His last position was President and Business Manager of Thermo Products LLC. He recently was transferred to North Carolina. On September 19, 2009 he reluctantly went on disablility due to his illness. He attended Cardinal Dougherty High School in Philadelphia and lettered in football and swimming. He also boxed for the Philadelphia Police Athletic League. Upon graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy (1962-1966). Stationed aboard the USS Peterson DE 152 and the USS Conyngham DDG 17, he proudly served our country during the Cuban Crisis and the Vietnam confict. Upon returning, he attended Rutgers University and graduated with a BS degree in accountingand a minor in cost accounting. Military honors will be conducted by Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12. Visitiaton will be Tuesday, December 29, 2009 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home-Albemarle. Funeral service will be Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel. Pastor Jeff; son and Pastor Todd Galloway to officiate. Military honors will be conducted by Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12.
