James Yow

James Clayton Yow, age 91, of Stanfield, was called home to be with the Lord October 13, 2016 at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center in Charlotte, following a brief illness.

Clayton was born May 8, 1925 to the late Daniel Monroe and the late Eliza Jane Tarlton Yow and grew up with eight siblings. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Henry Yow and Ned Yow; sisters, Bertha Yow, Sadie Furr, Nellie Yow, Hazel Smith, and Lucy Yow. One brother, Ray Yow, of Stanfield survives him.

Clayton worked for Kroehler Furniture Company as an upholsterer for 32 years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and watching Duke basketball and Atlanta Braves baseball. He loved spending time with family. He was a lifelong member of Loves Grove United Methodist Church where he served in many leadership positions and sang in the choir for many years. He was a member of the Golden Rule Sunday School Class.

Clayton was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Helen Joyce Dennis, in 2015. He is survived by son, James and wife, Susan of Albemarle; daughters, Joyce Kimrey and husband, Tommy of Albemarle and Janie Yow and fiancé, Paul Williams of Stanfield. He is survived by one grandson, Jonathan Yow and wife, Erin of Belmont; and six granddaughters, April Travis and husband, Chris of Waxhaw, Jennifer Hamilton and husband, Brad of Albemarle, Mary Barbee and husband, Kevin of Locust, Michelle Sheffield and husband, Matt of Oakboro, Tammy Kimrey of Albemarle, and Brooke Huneycutt and special friend, Richie Meadows of Oakboro. He is also survived by twelve great-grandchildren, Abigail and Samantha Yow, Madelyn, Rachel and Emily Travis, Elijah and Noah Sheffield, Chase, Abbey and Natalie Hamilton, and Barrett and Caroline Barbee.

The family will receive friends from 1:30pm to 3:00pm on Sunday, October 16, 2016 in the fellowship hall of Loves Grove United Methodist Church, 4360 Polk Ford Rd., Stanfield. The funeral service will be follow at 3:00pm in the church sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Jim White. The burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will be gathering at the home of his daughter Janie Yow, 4514 Polk Ford Rd., Stanfield.
