The Angels from Heaven escorted James Leroy “Jim” Long to the arms of the Lord on December 23, 2020.
James was born December 16, 1942 to the late Dollie Mae Woods Long and Archie Daniel Long, in Concord, N.C. He is preceded in death by his brother, Archie Daniel “Danny” Long, Jr. and sister Ovella Kate “Kay” Long. Survivors are his wife of 52 years, Judy Lambert Long, sister, Terri Jean Wagner of Concord, and brother, Kenneth Howard Long (Bonnie) of Wallace, South Carolina. He is also survived by numerous nieces, great-nieces, nephews and great-nephews. Sister-in-laws, Carolyn Kay Lambert (Michael), Kathy Lambert Stewart (George), brother in law, David Bruce Lambert (Patricia) and of course his “giggle buddy”, Alex.
Jim had two passions in life. The first was being able to bowl in the Cincinnati “Honkey’s Classic” with professional bowlers years ago. His second was playing Santa Clause every year back home in Concord. People would come from miles around to view his lights and to talk to Santa, receiving a cup of hot chocolate, a candy cane and a track about his Lord and Savior. After moving to Bristol, VA and joining Kingsway Baptist Church, he became involved in missions of the church going with friends on trips. He was ordained as deacon. He was also a enthusiastic Braves fan and never missed a game on TV if possible.
His wish was to have his friends to donate to the Walter Newland Missions Fund through Kingsway Baptist Church, 1999 Long Crescent Drive, Bristol. VA., 24201. The family sends its appreciation and love to all the doctors, nurses, family and friends who stood by our side during this sad time. Especially to the exceptional nurse who held his hand during his transition to Heaven.
A graveside service has been planned for Friday, January 22, 2021 at Carolina Memorial Park in the Garden of Wisdom section, at 2 P.M. conducted by the Rev. Todd Freeman. A Memorial Service will follow in a few weeks, to be announced, at Kingsway Baptist Church, 1999 Long Crescent Drive, Bristol, VA 24201 where friends and family may share their memories of Jim followed by a light lunch.
Our special love goes to a special great niece, Kayla Lynn Stewart, who brought special meaning to our lives and to our adorable dog, Skippy. We will love and miss you “Jimbo” and will miss your famous last words on Christmas Night each year. “Well, honey, another 365 Days!”
