Jan Furr

Jan Stephen Furr, 74 years of age, of Locust, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016.
Mr. Furr was born February 18, 1941 in Midland, NC to the late Dewey Dewitt Furr and the late Etta Frances Hall Furr. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty F. Hartsell; brother Lowery D. Furr; and sister, Sylvia F. Bowers.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm, Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at First Baptist Church, 320 S. Central Avenue, Locust. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm officiated by Rev. Dr. Tommy Ross. Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Carolyn Whitley Furr; daughter, Lori Furr Kattner and husband, Darryl of Archdale, NC; son, Bradley Vann Furr, Sr. and wife, Sandra of Amelia, VA; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, William B. Furr and wife, Lucille of Mint Hill, NC; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Furr retired in 1989 from Lucent Technologies, Inc., formerly Western Electric Company. He enjoyed working on tractors and other machinery. He was very devoted to his family, and was always willing to help out friends and neighbors.
