Jane Rogers

Mrs. Jane Morrow Rogers, age 91, passed into heaven on February 27, 2014. She was born March 18, 1922 in Albemarle, NC. Daughter of the late William Henry (Doc) Morrow and Estelle Efird Morrow. Mrs. Rogers graduated from Albemarle High School and attended Salem College in Winston Salem, NC. She then graduated from the Marjorie Webster School in Washington, DC. She was employed by the Soviet Purchasing Commission in Washington until her return to Albemarle in 1944. On March 23rd, she married her Army Air Corp 2nd Lieutenant fiance, Oron Julian Rogers, who preceded her in death in 1997. Their son, Julian, also preceded her in death in 1973. Their surviving children are Nancy Pressly and husband, Jack of Hickory, NC and Virginia Frick and husband, Richard of Asheville, NC; six grandchildren, Caroline Trado and husband, Chuck and Elizabeth Newton and husband, Jon all of Hickory, Mary Susan Frick of Asheville, Catherine Rowe and husband, Alan of Monroe, Jason Pressly of Asheville, Abby Pressly of Prescott, AZ; and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother, John M. Morrow of Albemarle. Mrs. Rogers possessed a keen and inquisitive mind and a kind and sensitive spirit. She was raised in the Lutheran Church and upon her marriage she became involved in the life of First Baptist Church of Albemarle. She taught children and adult Sunday School for over sixty years. A devoted volunteer, Mrs. Rogers was involved in many areas of service within the community; among these were the United Way, Girl Scouts and Habitat for Humanity. She also enjoyed her work with the garden clubs of the community. She loved her family, her friends, flowers, butterflies, animals and above all else her Lord Jesus Christ. Graveside rights will be held at Fairview Cemetery at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, March 8, 2014. The memorial service, officiated by Rev. Dan Freeman and Rev. John Futterer, will follow at 1:00 PM at First Baptist Church of Albemarle. The family will receive friends at a reception at the church following the memorial service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, 230 South Second Street, Albemarle, NC 28001, First Baptist Church, 202 North Second Street, Albemarle, NC 28001, American Red Cross, 243 West Main Street, Albemarle, NC 28001.
