Janelle Long

Janelle McKinney Long passed away on May 30, 2016 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC.

She was born March 3rd, 1927 in Badin NC to the late Lawrence Albert McKinney and Patty Ray Hardister McKinney. She attended and graduated from Badin Public School.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 24 years, Clarence Ray " Chuck " Long, and granddaughter Lauren Long, as well as brothers, Roy " Gudy " McKinney of Badin and Lawrence Ray McKinney of Charlotte.

She is survived by her four loving sons and daughters in law, David and Kathy Long of Butler, Ky, Douglas Long and (fiance' ) Julie Proctor of Badin, NC, Donald & Lisa Long of Albemarle, NC, Danny & Laura Long of Summerville, SC. She is also survived by 4 granddaughters, Suzanne Long, Christy Rathburn, Jennifer Haney, and Adrienne Ellen as well as 3 step granddaughters and 3 step grandsons, 7 great grandchildren and 2 sisters, Joanne Litaker of Charlotte, NC and Betty Hartsell of New London, NC. Also, 4 nieces and 3 nephews that affectionally knew her as "Aunt Nell. "

She retired from Bell South in 1992 and enjoyed her retirement caring for her siblings at times and taking trips with her church family. She was very active in her church Grace Crossing, formerly Shamrock Drive Baptist, where she served as a deacon and was a member of The Love Sunday School Class, The Sunshine Club, WMU, and was a correspondent for the Home Bound Members.

She was a very talented cook, baker and cake decorator. She created many amazing cakes for family and friends at birthdays and weddings. She also created many beautiful crocheted blankets and especially made sure all newborns of her family and friends had that "Aunt Nell" hand crafted blanket.

She will be greatly missed by her sons, family and friends, but we all take great comfort in knowing that she is in the loving arms of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and with her loved ones who preceded her in death.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 2, 2016, from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home, 522 North Second Street, Albemarle, NC 28001. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jason Blanton will officiate. Burial will immediately follow at Fairview Memorial Park.
