Janice Rogers Brewer

Janice Rogers Brewer, 85, of Albemarle, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 8, 2025. 

Janice was born on December 12, 1939, in Albemarle, North Carolina to the late Wade and Leila Rogers. 

Janice was a loving daughter, sibling, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Growing up, she enjoyed spending summers in Madison, North Carolina, and graduated from Albemarle High School in 1958 and later Morgan’s Business College. Always sociable, she worked anywhere and everywhere in Albemarle, including Ryan’s, Walmart, Belk, EJ Snyder’s, JCPenney, the Courthouse, Kmart, and C & A, where she met the love of her life, Donald Brewer. She made best friends in each place, and it was impossible to take a trip to the store without her stopping to chat with familiar faces. She loved dancing, especially to her favorite song “Love Train”, and was fashionable, always donning hats with her many outfits. A lifelong member of First Street Methodist Church, she was a Godly woman who represented her faith at all times. She was forever proud of her daughters and grandchildren, never missing a moment to treasure their lives and accomplishments. She truly made any space her community, and will be remembered for her undying joy and love for her friends and family. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Sylvia Harkey, and her husband Donald Brewer. 

She is survived by her daughters, Ellen Blue (Terry) and Cindy Purser (Kelly), her sister Pam Rogers, her nieces Sharon Lambeth and Meneika Helms, her three grandchildren, Samantha Malinda (Ben), and Joshua and Lucas Megson; and her great-grandchild, Lucy. 

In lieu of flowers, Janice’s family has requested memorial donations be made to the Stanly County YMCA. Janice grew up across the street from the YMCA, spent her childhood in the building, and worked at the front desk later in her life. She never ceased to express all of the happiness she felt while there. 

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025, at Central United Methodist Church in Albemarle, NC. at 10 am. officiated by Reverend Dr. David Blankenberg. A reception will be held after the service in the fellowship hall.
