Janice Decker

November 30, 1924 — April 8, 2011


Janice Winslow Ligo Decker, age 86, fell asleep in the arms of Jesus on Friday, April 8, 2011 after a valiant fight against breast cancer. She was born of November 30, 1924 in Watertown, NY, daughter of the late Harry E. and Eleanor Higby Winslow. She is also preceded in death by her son, Jack E. Ligo, Jr.; former husband, Jack E. Ligo; husband, Uriah (Cy) Decker; sisters, Nadine Pettit and Paula Dano; and step mother, Amy Winslow. Janice attended high school in Johnson City, NY and worked for IBM in Los Angeles, CA where she met her first husband, Jack. They were married on April 22, 1944 and parted ways in 1963. She married Uriah (Cy) Decker on August 20, 1966. She worked at Burt’s Department Store on Washington Avenue in Endicott, NY. In 1986, she and her husband moved to Concord. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 10, 2011 at Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 11, 2011 at Hartsell Funeral Home chapel at 11:00 AM with Rev. Ray Rippy to officiate. Interment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens in Charlotte. She is survived by her son, Joseph D. Ligo of, Binghamton, NY; daughters, Judith Alexander (Jim), of , Charlotte and Joyce Stump (David), of, League City, TX; brother, James Neary (Pat); sister, Patricia Talerico, of, Utica, NY; step daughters, Marian Scalzo (Joe), of, Leesburg, FL and Shirley Kamlet (Kenneth), of, Binghamton, NY; step son, Stanley Decker, of, Leesburg, FL; grandsons, Shawn Hakes, of, NC, David and Eric Stump, of, TX; granddaughter, Jennifer Cobb, of, NY; great granddaughter, Katie Hakes, of, NC; great grandson, Kaigen Cobb, of NY; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and step grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Charlotte for their help in being able to keep mother at home. A special thank you to Hospice nurse Shellie Morrison for her excellent care and compassion. The family would also like to thank her oncologist, Dr. James Wall for his excellent care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 East Seventh Street, Charlotte, NC 28204.
