Janice Elwood

Janice King Elwood, age 67 of Concord, NC, passed away on Friday, June 24, 2011 at Avante of Concord. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home on Sunday, June 26, 2011 from 6pm until 8pm. The funeral service will be Monday, June 27, 2011 at 11am at the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clarence Sifford officiating. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis. At other times, the family will meet at the home, 236 Glenn Street NW, Concord, NC. Mrs. Elwood was born in Cabarrus County on August 27, 1943 to the late James William "Bill" King and the late Mary Etta Phillips King. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, James Brian Elwood. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Zeke Elwood of the home; daughters, Leslie Ann Elwood of Concord, Jennifer King Elwood Horton and husband (Kevin) of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Dustin Elwood, Jackson Horton, Nicholas Horton; sisters, Jean Sloop of Concord, Vivian Honeycutt of Greer, SC; brother Phillip Norris King, Sr. of Norcross, GA. She is a former member of Mt. Hermon Lutheran Church. She graduated from Harrisburg High School, attended the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, and graduated from Rowan Community College. She was employed as a teacher’s assistant at R. Brown McAllister and Coltrane-Webb Elementary Schools.
