Janie Mae Swaringen Whitley

Janie Mae Swaringen Whitley, 85, of Oakboro, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at her home surrounded by her family.

Janie was born August 4, 1939 in Norwood, North Carolina to the late James Harvey Swaringen and the late Annie Lambert Hatley. 

She was also preceded in death by husband, Clayton Alexander "Buddy" Whitley, brothers, Steven Carroll Swaringen and James William Swaringen, and sister, Helen Virginia Whitley.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 1:45 pm, Friday, January 24, 2025 at Providence Church of God. A short committal by Rev. Jerry Ingle will be held in the church sanctuary following the visitation and immediately prior to burial at the Providence Church of God Cemetery at 12474 NC Hwy 24-27, Locust.

Survivors include daughters, Myra Lowder of Oakboro, NC and Patty Efird (Jeff) of Locust, NC; grandchildren, Amber Hill (Jeremy), Amy Ingle (Ken), and Chad Lowder; great-grandchildren, Conner, Josh, Adelyn, Peyton, and Josh; great-great-grandson, Jameson Cole; and brothers, Johnny Dee Swaringen of Oakboro, NC and Lee Crowell Swaringen of Albemarle, NC.

Janie loved spending time with her family and enjoyed sending cards to friends for any and every occasion. She also loved her Sunday School class and church family. Janie enjoyed holidays more than anyone! She also liked to go to yard sales and she would leave you behind if you were late to go with her. Janie enjoyed visiting the nursing homes with her Sunday School class and in her free time she loved to do word searches, puzzles, and read her Bible. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tillery Compassionate Care.
