Jay Burris

Jay “Ted” Burris, 87, of Locust, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2013. Mr. Burris was born May 17, 1925, in Stanly County to the late Wade Hiram and Effie Faye Hatley Burris. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Bonnie Mae Burris. The family will receive friends from 2 – 4 p.m., Wednesday, May 8, at Hartsell Funeral Home, Midland. The memorial service will follow at 4:00 p.m. in Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Dr. Kinney Wallace, Rev. Doug Van Neil and Dr. Tommy Ross, Jr. The burial will follow in the Locust Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 607 W. Main St., Locust, N.C. 28097. At other times, the family will meet at his home. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Pattie Amanda Tucker Burris, of the home; his daughter, Linda Barbee and husband, Rex, of Locust, NC; grandson, Chad Whitley and wife Jodi; great-granddaughter, Kenzie; great grandson, Blake of Harrisburg, NC and brother Lloyd Burris and wife, Shirley of Winston Salem, NC. Mr. Burris was employed by Cannon Mills, as a textile supervisor in the print department for many years. He loved sitting on his front porch watching the traffic and talking to all the folks walking and running on the sidewalk. Folks liked to call him Teddy Bear.
