Jean Goad Rabe

Mrs. Jean Goad Rabe, age 96, of Albemarle, NC, peacefully completed life’s journey on February 12, 2025, at Trinity Place in Albemarle, NC. She was born in Mt. Airy, NC on February 1, 1929, to the late Hubert and Patra Goad. She was a treasured daughter, devoted wife, beloved mother, and a dear friend to many. Jean's warm smile, kind spirit, and unwavering strength touched all who knew her. 

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Grady Thomas Rabe, Jr. Together, Jean and Tom traveled extensively and shared many unique experiences and lasting memories. 

She was blessed with a quick wit and a great sense of humor, always loving to make others smile. She cherished playing Bridge with friends and was a gifted watercolor painter. Jean was an active member of the Hawthorne Garden Club, Old North State Club, Stanly County Arts Guild, Stanly Health Foundation, Stanly County Senior Center, and First Presbyterian Church of Albemarle. 

Jean is survived by her two children, Lynn R. Poplin (Gerald) of Albemarle, NC and Carol J. Rabe of Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Dustin L. Poplin (Carla) of Albemarle, NC and Beverly P. Steinhaus (Nick) of Columbia, SC; and three great-grandchildren, Braden and Sophie Poplin and Jack Steinhaus. Jean's family was the joy of her life, and her legacy lives on through them. 

A visitation will be held Friday, February 14, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle, 522 North Second St., Albemarle, NC 28001. Burial will be private.
