Jean Speight

Jean Whitley Speight, age 78, of Albemarle passed away on Thursday November 10, 2011, at Stanly Regional Medical Center. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home Friday November 11, 2011, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. At other times the family will be meeting at her home. The funeral service will be Saturday, November 12, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with a 30 minute state prior to the service officiated by Dr. Wayne Bennett and Dr. Phillip Hunter the burial will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Speight was born on January 9, 1933, to the late Claude Isaac “C.I.” Burris and the late Truly Whitley Burris. She is preceded in death by her first husband Vernon Whitley. She is survived by her husband Charlie “C.J.” Speight of 16 years; sons Steve Whitley and wife Mary Ann of Holden Beach, Gary Whitley and wife Lou of Albemarle; David Whitley and wife Ann of Monroe; step son Sherwin Speight and wife Tricia of Hickory; and step daughter Janet Eudy and husband Rick of Oakboro; sister Doris Pressley and husband Bob of Greenville SC, 4 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and 5 step grandchildren. She is preceded in death by 2 brothers Ernest Burris, Craven Burris and sister Betty Austin.
