Jenna Sue Christenbury Taylor of Harrisburg, NC, went home to her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at her residence in Harrisburg. She had recently celebrated her 92nd birthday, but if you asked her she’d tell you she was “39 again.”
The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm, Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Covenant Church Harrisburg, 6900 Hickory Ridge Road, Harrisburg, NC 28075. The funeral service, officiated by Pastor Gene Turner, will follow at 3:00 pm. A private family graveside service will follow at the Harrisburg Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Taylor was born August 17th, 1932 in Cabarrus County, North Carolina to the late Silas Woodly Christenbury and the late Susie Brumley Christenbury. She was preceded in death by her sister, JoAnn Jones.
Jenna Sue graduated from Odell High School in 1950 and started her career at Mill-Power Company shortly after. She retired from General Electric after 39 years as a Customer Service and Sales Assistant, where she was beloved by her longtime coworkers. She also served on the Harrisburg Town Council, Harrisburg Lion’s Club and Piedmont Area Development Association. In her quieter moments she enjoyed bowling, reading, sewing, music (especially Elvis), and gift shopping for family and friends.
Jenna Sue grew up on a farm and learned early the value of hard work, the necessity of relying on God’s wisdom and grace, and the importance of family. Her and her seven brothers & sisters along with their spouses were a tight knit bunch, and continue to be positive role models in every aspect of life. Grammy, as she was affectionately known, was always quick with a hug or a cookie for any grandchild who happened by.
She had a passion for travel and new experiences, even well into her eighties. It wasn’t unusual to hear of Grammy riding horses, white water rafting, heading off to distant destinations, and having many other adventures with her brothers and sisters whom she loved dearly. Her family will always cherish their annual reunions and beach trips, which came with an abundance of great food and memories. She is truly adored and will be greatly missed.
Jenna Sue’s loving and outgoing spirit is carried on by her husband of 72 years, James Walter "Burr" Taylor, son Dennis Taylor (Lisa), daughter Anna Morrison (Rick), grandchildren Dylan, Danielle, and McKayla Taylor, Truett, Garrett, and Brayden Morrison, great-grandson Greyson Taylor, brothers Paul, Kenneth (Suggie), Ted, Jerry (Joyce), Eddie Mac (Peggy), sister Sandra “Cookie” Thomas (Darrell) and many, many nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Covenant Church of Harrisburg or Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County.
