Jennie Layton

Jennie Corinna Smith Layton, 82 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Friday, September 20, 2013 at Forrest Oakes Healthcare Center. Jennie was born March 17, 1931 in Stanly County to the late Henry Shelby Smith and Julia Davis Smith. She was also preceded in death by son, Don Layton; three brothers; and one sister. The family will receive friends from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm, Tuesday, September 24, 2013 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm in the Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Richard Carlisle officiating. The burial will be at Fairview Memorial Park. She is survived by her husband, James "JD" Donald Layton; sons, Roger Layton and wife Teresa, James "JR" Layton and wife Linda; sister, Janelle Carter; daughter-in-law, Kathy Layton; four grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Poplin Grove Baptist, 220 Poplin Grove Church Rd., Albemarle, NC 28001. Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle is serving the Layton family.
