Jerome Whitley

Jerome Willie Whitley, age 86 of 18848 Graham Road, Oakboro, NC 28129, passed away on March 01, 2011 at Stanly Regional Medical Center in Albemarle. The family will receive friends on Friday at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 2:30 to 4:00PM. At other times they will meet at his home. The funeral will be Friday, at 4 PM at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Dr.Wayne Bennett and Rev. Tab Whitley will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Stanly County DAV, Chapter 12. He worked in shipping for Charlotte Pipe and Foundry for 25 years. He was a WWII Army Vet and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Born in Stanly County on March 11, 1924, he was the son of the late James Luther Whitley and the late Bessie Hinson Whitley. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Fred H. Whitley and a sister, Hettie Whitley. Jerome Whitley was survived by his wife of 62 years, Gatha Cornell Barbee Whitley of the home; son, Dudley J. Whitley and wife Betty of Oakboro; and grandson, Shawn C. Whitley. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 N.
