Jerry Almond passed away peacefully in his home on February 12, 2025. He was born on December 15, 1940, in Stanly County, North Carolina, to Ruby Elizabeth Smith and Henry Lee Almond. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Roy Lee Almond, his daughter, Carmen Celeste Almond, and his grandson, Andrew Ryan Almond.
Jerry is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Mildred S. Almond, of Harrisburg, NC; his sons, Chris Almond (Cheryl) of Harrisburg, NC, and Andrew Almond (Courtney) of Haw River, NC; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Jerry met the love of his life, Mildred, in Concord, NC, and the couple married in 1960. Together, they built a beautiful life in Harrisburg, where Jerry’s business, Harrisburg Printing, thrived for 51 years. Harrisburg Printing started in the brick shed behind their residence. His dedication to his work, family, and community created a legacy. Jerry was known for his unwavering commitment to service and held firm to values of discipline, integrity, and compassion throughout his life.
As a man with a servant's heart, Jerry was passionate about giving back to his community. He volunteered as a firefighter with the Harrisburg Volunteer Fire Department and Pioneered the Rescue Squad, alongside his wife, Millie, sharing a bond with their community family. Jerry’s love and faith in God was the center of his life, and he was a devoted member of Providence Baptist Church. Jerry served in youth ministry, as a deacon, and through various church initiatives and outreach programs.
Jerry had a deep love for NASCAR and cherished every moment spent at the racetrack. He relished meeting drivers, watching races from his recliner, and creating lasting memories. Some of his most unforgettable moments included meeting legendary drivers like David Pearson, Tim Richmond, and Bobby Allison.
Jerry and his wife, Millie, shared a passion for travel and spent many joyful years exploring the world together. Their adventures took them to remarkable destinations, including Prague, Amsterdam, the Virgin Islands, Mexico, the Rockies, Las Vegas, San Francisco, California Wine Country, and New Orleans. They also embarked on multiple cruises that allowed them to experience the beauty and culture of various locations around the globe.
There will be a visitation on February 17, 2025, 11:00 - 12:30 pm, at Providence Baptist Church, 5315 State Hwy 49, Harrisburg, NC 28075, with the service following at 12:30 - 1:30 pm. Burial will follow at Mallard Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, 3001 Morehead Road, Charlotte, NC 28262.
The Almond family extends heartfelt gratitude to the healthcare workers and the team at Hospice & Palliative Care of Cabarrus County – Atrium Health for their exceptional care and support during Jerry’s final days.
