Jerry Hagler

July 5, 1935 — August 6, 2018

Jerry Israel Hagler, 83, of Concord, passed away Monday, August 6, 2018 at 3:55am at Tucker Hospice House of Cabarrus County.

Jerry was born July 5, 1935 to the late John Israel Hagler and the late Essie Mae Haigler Hagler. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Johnson Hagler, Homer Hagler and Terry Hagler; and his sister, Laveda Hagler.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 from 12:00 - 1:00 pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord. The funeral service to celebrate his life will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, August 8, 2018 in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel, officiated by Pastor David Jacob. The burial will follow at Carolina Memorial Park of Kannapolis. At other times, the family will gather at the home on 74 Fleetwood Dr., Concord.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Louise Plyler Hagler of Concord; daughters, Spring Hagler Harwood (Ronald) of Mt Pleasant, Robin Hagler Honeycutt (Anthony) of Kannapolis; sister, Carrie Mae Almond; brother, Edward Hagler (Janet), all of Concord. Sister-in-laws, Alice Hagler and Evelyn Hagler.

Grandchildren: Jennifer Radford (Sean), Jereme Harwood (Crysten), Chelsea Wilkinson (Mitch), Carley Wilkinson, Tyler Honeycutt (Casey), and Hannah Burchfield (Jennings).

Great-grandchildren: Austin Radford, Hayden Radford, Maddox Harwood, Landon Harwood, and Adelaide Burchfield.

Mr. Hagler graduated in 1954 from Hartsell High School and grew up in Concord.

He served in the United States Air Force, where he was Airman C Specialist in charge of schools and he received the National Defense Service Medal, Top Airman Honor, and the Good Conduct Medal before being honorably discharged in 1958. He received his degree of business and finance at Evans Business College. He retired from Western Electric/AT&T Communications after 35 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Jackson Park Lions Club, he had also served as Treasurer for the Jackson Park Sanitary District. He was instrumental in helping to extend water service into the county district. He served on the Board of Elections for Cabarrus County for many years.

He attended Concord First Assembly where he was active in the Golden Couples. Jerry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle. He enjoyed spending time with his family and trips to the beach. He also enjoyed going and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren at sporting events. He liked walking at the Carolina Mall and socializing with friends.
