Jessie Lee Harkey, Sr., 65 years of age, of Midland, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center – NorthEast in Concord. Mr. Harkey was born December 24, 1946 in Cabarrus County to the late Charles Fish Harkey and the late Lessie Mae Page Harkey. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty Price; and his brothers Leroy Cavender and Otis Cavender. Jessie worked at Trend Hosiery Mill as a machine fixer for many years and he retired from Locust Monument. He was a man of many talents. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Midland. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed yard work, cooking, socializing and spending time with his children and grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Monday, March 26, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The funeral service will be at 4 p.m., Tuesday, with a 30 minute state prior to the service, at First Baptist Church of Midland, 4720 Garmon Mill Road. Rev. Tom Gibbs will officiate the service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at his home. Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Judy May Crayton Harkey, of the home; his sons, Jessie Lee Harkey, Jr. and his wife, Amy, and Jason Harkey and his wife, Sunshine, all of Midland; his grandchildren, Jessica and her fiancé Josh O’Neil, Julie, Troy, Jordan, Ashley and Amanda; his sisters, Lucille Furr and Margaret Simmons; his brothers, Walker Harkey, Ronald Harkey, Jack Everhart; and many special “adopted†grandchildren.
