Jettie Whitley

Jettie Rogers Whitley, 104 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Monday, January 16, 2017 at Spring Arbor Assisted Living Center.

Jettie, born September 27, 1912, in Stanly County, was preceded in death by her husband in 1997, Hilliard V. Whitley; and daughter in law, Susan L. Whitley, in 2016; and six sisters and one brother.

The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm, Thursday, January 19, 2017 at First Lutheran Church, Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Thursday at 3:00 pm at First Lutheran Church, Albemarle officiated by Rev. Louise Hilbert. Burial will follow at Fairview Memorial Park at 1425 East Main Street, Albemarle. Jettie will remain at the funeral home Wednesday night and all day Thursday until 2:30 pm.

Jettie and her husband, Hilliard, founded and operated the original Albemarle Bake Shop. Jettie will long be remembered for her cake decorating talents, her porcelain dolls, and china painting.

Survivors include son, Johnny Whitley of Hickory; grandson, Jonathan (Mayumi) Whitley of Lorton, VA; granddaughter, Jennifer (Trey) Gatewood of Newton; three great-grandchildren, Jackson and Ella Whitley and Callen Gatewood.
