Jimie Maley

Jimie Gene Maley, 83, of Concord, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 1, 2019.

Jim was born December 20, 1935 in Howard, Kansas, to the late Albert Lawrence Maley and the late Ilene Jospehine Johnson Maley.  He was also preceded in death by grandson, Ryan Whiteley; brother, Larry Maley; and sister, Nancy Maley Mitchell.

Jim was an Engineer for NASA.  He was Deputy Director of the tracking facility in Fairbanks, Alaska.  He retired as the Program Manager of the Tracking Data Relay Satellite System at NASA headquarters in Washington DC.  His main responsibilities were to make sure TDRSS Satellites were built, tested and deployed into space.  He was a member of the Reno Masonic Lodge No. 140 in Hutchinson, Kansas, and a Shriner with the Al-Aska Shrine Temple in Fairbanks, Alaska.  Jim was an avid outdoorsman.  All of his hobbies revolved around hunting and fishing.  He was very creative and could make his own gun stocks and fishing lures.  Jim was an Eagle Scout and was always very involved in Scouting.  He attended and taught at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.  Jim coached Jimie II's teams in basketball, hockey, baseball and football.  Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He was dearly loved and will be forever missed.

Survivors include beloved wife of 63 years, Barbara Ann Lowenstein Maley; son, Jimie Gene Maley, II and wife, Cheryl Green Maley, of Concord; daughter, Dee Ann Maley Whiteley and husband, Douglas Whiteley, of Concord; granddaughter, Erin Whiteley Beall and husband, John Beall, of Concord; granddaughter, Alyssa Maley Whiting and husband, Kelvin Whiting, of Kannapolis; granddaughter, Kirsten Maley of Concord; grandson, Colin Whiteley of Concord; grandson, Jimie Gene Maley, III of Concord; great-grandchildren, Emma Beall and Levi Beall, both of Concord; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 3:00 pm - 3:45 pm, Sunday, August 4, 2019 at Roberta United Methodist Church, 3925 Cochran Rd, Concord.  The memorial service will follow at 4:00 pm in the church sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Perry Hines.  Jimie will be laid to rest during a private committal in the church cemetery.
