Jimmie Caldwell Furr, 89, of Concord, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2024, at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis.
Mr. Furr was born on March 21, 1935, in Concord, North Carolina, to the late Charlie Caldwell Furr and the late Alice Elizabeth Davis Furr.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Brock Furr; his parents; his father-in-law, Kenneth Brock; his mother-in-law, Sally Short Brock; and his sister-in-law, Roberta “Gayle” Arey Furr.
Mr. Furr was a veteran of the U.S. Army and a graduate of Duke University, where he earned a Master of Divinity degree.
He served as a United Methodist minister for over 56 years, with his last appointment being at Hanna Chapel and Wade United Methodist Church, where he served for 29 years before retiring in July of 2024.
Throughout his career, Jim ministered at many United Methodist churches. He and his wife also served weekly at the Anson County Crisis Ministry. He was a quiet and humble man who loved the Lord and preaching the Gospel. He provided spiritual care to many members of his congregations, as well as to residents in local nursing homes.
The graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 6th, at 2 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Concord.
Survivors include his brother, Richard Furr of Concord; nephews and nieces, Shane Furr (Leigh Ann) of Kannapolis, Travis Furr (Aprille) of Rockwell; great nephews and great nieces Andrew Furr, Alex Furr, Kennedy Furr, and Kolton Furr; and his cousin, Lois Cox.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Anson Crisis Ministry, Hanna Chapel United Methodist Church in Wadesboro, NC, or Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC.
