Jimmie Moorefield

Jimmie Marie Lucas Moorefield, 85 years of age, of Concord, passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 9, 2014 at Morningside Assisted Living in Concord.
Mrs. Moorefield was born November 29, 1928 in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Troupe Ripley Lucas and the late Helen Marie Dunk .
She was also preceded in death by son, James Moorefield.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, Friday, April 11, 2014 at Saint James The Greater Catholic Church, Concord. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, officiated by Father Joseph Dionne. A graveside service will be at Woodlawn Park Cemetery North, 3262 SW 8th Street, Miami, Fl 33135, on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at 1:00 PM.
Survivors include daughter, Helen (Jim) Hunt of Harrisburg, NC; son, Lon (Viqui) Moorefield of Miami, FL; daughter, Marie (Greg) Southerland of Monroe, NC; six grandchildren, Christopher (Favi) Moorefield, Andrew Moorefield, Laurie, Casey, and Kevin Southerland, and Melanie Hunt; four great grandchildren, Peter, Brynn, Gemma, & Penelope.
Mrs. Moorefield attended Miami Sr. High where she was a band majorette and member of the Boys Drum and Bugle Corp. She received her BS in Economics from the University of Alabama and her Masters in Education from the University of Miami. Mrs. Moorefield was a member of Phi Delta Kappa Sorority and 2nd cycle U.S. Teacher Corp. She taught first grade at Redland Elementary School and later taught at Feinburg-Fisher Elementary School, Miami Beach. Mrs. Moorefield was awarded Dade County Teacher of the Year in 1984.
She retired and moved to Oak Island, NC where she became involved with the beach walkers, Southport Animal Rescue, and Sea Turtle Watch. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Southport, NC.
After a decade at the beach she moved to Concord, NC, to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren. She was a member of St. James The Greater Catholic Church, Concord, NC, where she was a member of the Women's Guild.
