Joan Munro

Joan Valerie Munro, 72, passed peacefully in the early morning hours, from this life into the next on September 14, 2018.

Joan was preceded in death by her parents, William Munro and Virginia Greene.  She was born in Charlotte and  raised in San Francisco, CA.  She graduated from Gallileo High School in 1964 and took her first job at Metropolitan Insurance.  It was there that she met Cynthia Hurlbut and a lifelong friendship formed with her family that lasted until her passing.

She moved back to Charlotte in 1973 where she worked in automotive and then for Sharon Memorial Park before starting her career with First Union.  She was a keen business woman that wasnt intimidated by anything or anyone.  Even though she had a strong take charge attitude, she was also widely known for her lighthearted sense of humor.  She dedicated her life to the bank and was instrumental in a few of the banks mergers.  Joan was broken hearted to retire after almost thirty years of service.

Joan was bad ass in business.  She was a woman in a man's world.  She wasn't timid or shy.  She got things done.  She was a leader and a trailblazer for other women, both at work and in her personal life.  She volunteered at the Women's Commission, the battered women's shelter and the women's jail re-entry program.

Joan was a lot of things to lot of different people.  She was loving, she was kind,she was difficult, she was easy, she was funny, she was laid back, and she was strict.  Joan treated everyone with the same respect, from the janitor to the CEO.  She felt just as comfortable volunteering with the homeless as she did when she was in a business meeting.  She was authentic and genuine.  Joan touched hearts everywhere she went.  Joan fought a hard battle against end-stage COPD and dementia. If she lost contact with you in the past year, please know it was not because she forgot your friendships, or forgot your love.

Joan's greatest love was her animals and her family.  We take great comfort knowing she has been reunited with her precious pets and her beloved mother.

Joan will be forever loved and remembered by her chosen family; sisters, Denise Lea and her husband John, Lauri Neureuther and her husband George; daughters, Melissa Baier Hanna and her husband Chris, Mindy Sanders and her fiancé, Jenn Joyce; granddaughters, Kayla McClure and McKenzie McClure (Jeff).
Joan will also be forever loved and remembered by a host of friends and family, far too many to list.

Joan would like us all to remember; "Do what's right and do whats good",  "Be kind and help others", "The world can always use one more kind person", and finally, "To the world, you may be one person, but to one person, you may be the world".

Per Joan's wishes, a private service will be held in California, at the same place that her mothers ashes were spread.

Memorials may be made to your local pet shelter or to the battered women's shelter.
