Joe Connell

Mr. Joe Dale Connell, 74, of Rockwell, passed from this earth to his heavenly home on Sunday, April 7, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center - NE. Mr. Connell had been in declining health for 3 months. His death was unexpected. Joe was born in Mecklenburg County to the late Clarence and Dorothy Connell. He graduated from Bethel High School and Biscayne Business College. He served his country proudly in the US Navy from 1957 to 1961. He retired after 35 years from Overnite Transportation as Drivers Supervisor. He then worked part-time at Webster Radiator for 4 years. Mr. Connell was also a member of Charity Baptist Church. He loved watching football, baseball and NASCAR. His passion was watching his grandchildren play ball. A service to celebrate his life will be 2:00pm Thursday, April 11, 2013 in the chapel of Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord with Rev. Ron Bushey, of Charity Baptist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends following the service, at other times the family will be at the home of his son in Rockwell. Mr. Connell is survived by his; wife, Elaine Baucom Connell of Concord; son, Chad Sloop and his wife Brandy of Rockwell; stepson, Kevin Sloop and his wife Michele of Rockwell; brother, Jack Connell and his wife Libby of Huntersville; 2 grandchildren Kaylah and Hunter Sloop; 3 step-grandchildren, Emily, Alison and Karson Sloop and by a number of nieces and nephews. The family requests in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to American Lung Association, 514 Daniels St. #109, Raleigh, NC 27605. Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord is serving the Connell family.
