Joe Harwood

Joe Billy Harwood, age 82, of Albemarle, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle, Tuesday, June 4, 2013 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Robert Cauble and Rev. David Hatley, will be held at Tabernacle United Methodist Church on Wednesday, June 5, 2013 at 2:00pm. He will lie in a 30 minute state prior to the service. Burial will follow at Salem United Methodist Church. At other times, the family will meet at his home. Joe was born on June 10, 1930, to the late Pearson Harwood and the late Gertrude Harwood. He is also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Maxine Harwood. Mr. Harwood is survived by four sons, Jeff Harwood and wife Sherri of Albemarle, Robert Harwood and wife Debra of Albemarle, Paul Harwood and wife Donna of Albemarle, Jon Harwood of Rock Springs, WY; a daughter, Cynthia Harwood Rhea of Gastonia; eight grandchildren, Joe Harwood, Nathan Harwood, Erin Harwood, Zachary Harwood, Nolan Harwood, Kristen Hatley and husband Luke, Lauren Parker and husband Johnny, and Dane Rhea; two great grandchildren, Kaylee Parker and Alexis Hatley. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1988. He served in the Korean War in the US Army. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, 960 North First St. Albemarle, NC 28001.
