Joe "Bobby" Martin

Joe "Bobby" Robert Martin, 90, of Harrisburg, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2023.

Joe was born April 3, 1933, in Marshville, NC, to the late Joe Martin and the late Julia Sarah Lowery Martin.  He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Doris Auten Martin; daughter, Sheila King; brother, Jason Martin; and sister, Ann Grant.

Joe was a veteran of the United States Army.  He retired after 43 years of service at Sears.  He was a member of Multiply Church, Harrisburg.  Joe loved having a garden and passed that down to his grandchildren.  He'd say "getting your hands in the dirt and working hard is good for the soul and builds character."  Joe enjoyed spending time in Anson County.  Most of all, Joe was a loving husband, daddy, and Paw Paw.

Survivors include his daughter, Cheryl (Chris) Almond of Harrisburg; daughter, Michelle Martin of Harrisburg; son-in-law, Terry King of Charlotte; three grandchildren, Jay (Chelsea) King, Amanda (Evan) Smith, and Stacy (Ezekiel) Slobodiuk; two great-grandsons, Noah Smith and Jayson King; sisters, Rose Harrell and Judy (Butch) Wait; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service in celebration of Joe's life will be at 12:00 pm on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Hartsell Funeral Home's Harrisburg Chapel, officiated by Pastor Mike Thevenin.  The service will be webcast:  https://video.ibm.com/hartsell-funeral-home-harrisburg-nc1  Burial with military honors will follow at the Carolina Memorial Park Harrisburg.

In lieu of flowers, Joe would prefer you go out and plant a tree.
