Joe Russell

Joe L. Russell, 82 died at 10:17 on Saturday morning September 16, 2017 with his family by his side.

Joe Russell was born October 25th 1934 in Albemarle, NC to the late John Thomas Russell and the late Edith Russell.

He served in the U.S. Army from October 20, 1954 to September 24, 1957.

On April 6th 1957, he married his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, the former Josette (Courau) Russell who survives.

Other survivors include his daughter, Jocelyne Lueker, his son Jean-Joel Russell, his daughter-in-law, Donna Russell and his grandchildren Jacob and Hannah Russell of Simpsonville, South Carolina.

Graduated from Pfeiffer University with a B.S. in Economics and Political Science in 1961 and Harvard in 1981 with a Masters.

He worked in the government for over 30 years. He worked with the Department of Labor, Special Assignment to President Nixon and with the Federal Mediation Conciliatory Services.

The family will receive guests on September 20th Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle, NC. Funeral service for Mr. Russell will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 21st at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Albemarle and will be officiated by Reverend Richardson.

Memorial contributions may be made on behalf of Mr. Russell to the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Albemarle.

Arrangements are in the care of Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle.

Joe Russell will be forever missed by his loving family and many many friends.
