Joel Russell

Joel Arlie Russell, 83 years of age, of Albemarle, passed away Friday, November 11, 2016 at Carolinas HealthCare System-Stanly.

Joel was born August 14, 1933 in Stanly County to the late Dan William Russell and the late Nora Lee Chance Russell.
He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lois Bowers Russell; a daughter, Shirley Lowder Burleyson; brothers, Gerald, Donald, and Deward Russell; and sister, Elizabeth Howard.

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm, Monday, November 14, 2016 at Fellowship Baptist Church-Albemarle. The funeral service will be on Monday at 1:00 pm at Fellowship Baptist Church, officiated by Rev. David Howard. Burial will follow at Plyler Baptist Church Cemetery in Albemarle.

Survivors include sons, Junior (Pat) Lowder and Steve Lowder, both of Albemarle; son-in-law, Steve Burleyson of Mount Pleasant; brother, Ned (Pam) Russell of New London; sister, Londean Ingold of Albemarle.

A veteran of the US Navy and the US Army, he is retired from the Stanly County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy Sheriff.
