John Barnes

John Broda Barnes, 77 years of age, of Mt. Pleasant, was received by the Lord on September 10, 2015 at his home surrounded by family and care givers.
John was born July 27, 1938 in Chicago, IL and lived his childhood in Kingman, AR and Denver, CO. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Broda Barnes and Charlotte Barnes; brother, Dr. Robert Barnes and sister-in-law, Kay Barnes.
He was enlisted in the Navy from June 1956 to 1959 and served in the reserves until 1967. John married Frances Winter Barnes on October 29, 1960. John attended Colorado State University and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in January 1972. He worked for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company at their home office in Milwaukee, WI as a Mechanical Engineer for 2 buildings for 20 years. John retired in 1993 so Frances and he could travel in a RV around the West which he loved so much! They set up a home base in Lakewood, NM for 11 years. In 2004, John and Frances moved to North Carolina to be near their children and grandchildren and live out in the country. John's hobbies were working outside in the garden, riding his tractor and taking care of his donkeys; Ruth and Sara.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Oak Grove Methodist Church, 32056 Herrin Grove Rd, Mt. Pleasant officiated by Rev Beau Linker.
John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Frances; three children, Cindy Barrett and her husband Jim; James Barnes and his wife Sherry; William Barnes and his wife, Stephanie; nine grandchildren, Michael and Emily Teal, Erin Barrett; William Barnes and his wife, Ashley; Adam and Jessica Barnes; Kayleigh, Kendal and Wyatt Barnes; a great grandchild, Camden Barnes as well as nieces and nephew and other family friends.
The family would like to thank Central Carolina Home Care and their wonderful staff and Dr. Timothy Paul for his loving care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Grove Methodist Church, 32056 Herrin Grove Rd, Mt. Pleasant, NC 28124.
