John Michael Brooks, 75, of Oakboro, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2023 at Anson Health and Rehabilitation in Wadesboro.
John was born February 9, 1948 in Valparaiso, Indiana to the late John Doss Brooks and the late Pansy Marie Brooks.
A memorial service will be held at a later time.
John was a wonderful husband of 39 years to his loving wife, Gaynelle. John earned an Associates degree in mechanical engineering and was a licensed pilot. John worked as a mechanical engineer for many years and later became a senior designer for IMO who specialize in high-volume pumps. He was known for building model planes, as well as ultra lights and experimental aircraft which he also piloted. He was also fond of trains and as a member of Southern Piedmont Live Steamers, built a miniature track for 1/7th scale trains at his home. The club gave seminars on train history in America, and were known for traveling the United States to join other train enthusiast clubs in riding all the various types of trains.
Survivors include wife, Gaynelle Brooks; brothers, Joe (Susan) Brooks, James (Sherry) Brooks, and Robert (Rose) Brooks; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.
Donations may be made to Saint Jude's Children's Research Hospital, or to the local charity of your choice.
