John "Jeff" Jefferson Underwood III, 72 years of age, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away peacefully at his home Friday, October 7, 2016.

Mr. Underwood was born March 6, 1944 in Albemarle, NC to the late John Jefferson Underwood, Jr. and Appolonia "Bob" Staton Underwood. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Betsy" Lee Holbrook Underwood and a sister, Patricia Ann Underwood Hicks.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am - 11:00 am, Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am in the Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel officiated by Albin Greenwood. A luncheon will be held at Tillery Tradition Country Club at 1:00 pm. following the service.

Jeff graduated from Wake Forest University in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He served as an Army officer from 1967-1969, stationed in Korea. He joined Alcoa and held various sales and marketing positions within the company and Alcoa Conductor Products Company. In 1993 he was named Chairman and CEO of United States Alumoweld Company, an Alcoa wire and cable manufacturer. After 31 years of service to Alcoa he retired and became a co-owner of the Bill Voorhees Company (a distributor of heating and cooling equipment and supplies in Nashville, TN) from 2002 to 2010 before moving to Myrtle Beach, SC. Mr. Underwood lived in many US cities throughout his life, most recently in Nashville, TN before moving to Myrtle Beach, SC.

Survivors include daughters, Mij Kritzman and husband David Kritzman, and Joy Underwood and husband Ken Whitehouse; four grandchildren, Morgan and Mark Kritzman and Addie and Edith Whitehouse; and sister, Sue Underwood Almond.
