John "JB" Benjamin Lambert, 81, of Locust, passed away Monday, March 13, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.
JB was born October 28, 1935 in Stanly County to the late Virgil Jerome Lambert, Sr. and the late Cora Belle Whitley Lambert. He was also preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Sylvia Ann Lambert, who passed away in 2012; brothers, Virgil "June" Jerome Lambert, Jr., Odell Lambert, and Martin Lambert.
The family will receive friends from 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm, Friday, March 17, 2017 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1309 Old Charlotte Rd., Albemarle. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm in the church sanctuary, officiated by Rev. Joe Smith. The burial will be at Running Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, 24671 Millingport Rd., Locust. Military honors will be conducted by the Stanly County DAV, Chapter #12 and NC National Guard Honor Guard. JB will lie in state from 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. At other times, the family will be gathering at his home.
He is survived by his son, Johnny Lambert and wife Margaret of Locust; daughters, Tracy Lewis and husband David of Locust, Sherrie Smith of Albemarle; brothers, Richard Lambert and wife Vicki of Albemarle, Leonard Lambert and wife Shelia of Locust; sister, Margaret Smith of Locust; grandchildren, Amber, Michael, Adam, Darrell, Misty, Francesca, Benjamin; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
JB was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He honorably served his country in the United States Army. He was owner and operator of Big John's Barber Shop in Concord for 30 years, and later retired from the NC Department of Transportation. JB was a faithful member of Immanuel Baptist Church, and was a founding member of the Ridgecrest Volunteer Fire Department. He was also an avid fisherman. JB was a fun-loving and selfless person, who loved to cut-up and carry on. He was one that never met a stranger, and left an everlasting impression on all those he came in contact with.
