John Owen, Jr

John Howell Owen, Jr., 89 years of age, of New London, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2013 at Trinity Place in Albemarle. John was born September 15, 1924 in Mocksville to the late John Howell Owen, Sr. and the late Lula Spry Owen. He was also preceded in death by wife, Marie Kimrey Owen in 2004; brother, James B. Owen and grandson, Cale Owen. John proudly served his country in the United States Army during WWII. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm until 4:00pm, Sunday, December 1, 2013 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. The funeral service officiated by Rev. David Nolan will follow at 4:00pm in Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow at the New London Cemetery, 248 East Depot Street, New London with full military honors by the Stanly County DAV. He is survived by sons, Galen Owen of New London and Jimmie and wife, Joan Owen of Frog Pond; daughter, Vickie Weaver and husband, Steve of Albemarle, brothers, Tommy Owen of FL and Bobby Joe Owen of Lexington; sisters, Dorothy Smith of Lincolnton and Jane Hege of Lexington.
