John Parker

John Benton "JB" Parker, 89 years of age, of Polkton, NC passed away Monday, September 30, 2013 at W. G. Hefner Medical Center in Salisbury. JB was born December 31, 1923 in Union County to the late Jessie Atlas Parker and the late Fannie Curlee Parker. He was also preceded in death by wife, Virginia Dare Greene Parker in 2009. The family will receive friends from 6 pm to 8 pm, Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle. The graveside service will be at 11 am on Thursday, October 3, 2013 at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery, 6223 Love Mill Rd., Monroe, with Rev. George Gouge and Rev. Don Thompson officiating the service. Military Honors will be conducted by the Veterans Council of Union County and the North Carolina National Guard. He is survived by his son, Dennis Parker of Polkton; sister, Gladys Parker Ross of Polkton; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. JB was a farmer and enjoyed working on old tractors. He also loved auction sales and wood working. JB was a history fanatic and loved genealogy. He served his country honorably in the Army as a Technical Sergeant.
