John Carl Parker Jr.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Carl Parker Jr., 84, in his home surrounded by his family, on November 12th 2024. John was born on February 9th 1940 in Concord, NC to John C. Parker Sr. & Bessie Rae Turner.

John found the love of his life Carolene Phyllis Love who was his beloved wife for 39 years. John was known for his servant’s heart, love of Christ, and unwavering devotion to his family and country. John was a Deacon and devout member of Southside Baptist Church in Concord, NC.

John served his country and the state he loved with a 38 year career in the North Carolina National Guard achieving the rank of Sergeant Major. He served with distinction in assignments across the state in a variety of roles and capacities culminating as the Operations Sergeant Major for the 449th Aviation Group before his retirement in 2000. After retirement he worked for the Rocky River Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant in Cabarrus County.

In his personal life John enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family especially his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved his dogs, staying physically fit, baking, and western movies.

John is preceded in joining the Lord by his father and mother, John & Bessie Parker; his wife, Carolene Parker; and his brothers, Wayne & William Parker.

John is survived by his step-daughters Sandra Elaine & husband Sheryll Huneycutt, Debbie Ann & husband Layne Tarlton, and Janet Lee Brattain; grandchildren Tammy & husband Art Ridenhour, Wendy Tarlton, Jennifer & husband Eric Towner, Jessica & husband David Oliver, Jeremy Tarlton and wife Ashley, Jamie & husband Dylan Ferguson; and many loving greatgrandchildren.

Funeral services are under the direction of Hartsell Funeral Home, Concord, NC. Viewing will begin on Saturday November 16th, 2024 at 10:00am at Southside Baptist Church in Concord, NC, followed by a memorial service at 11:00am under the direction of Pastor Joey Morrison. John’s final resting place will be at Carolina Memorial Park in Concord, NC on November 16th, 2024 at 12:30pm.
